kenny ackermann meets his grandfather to ask him why the ackermann clan, despite being a warrior clan who used to protect the king in the past, is now persecuted by the monarchy. The latter explains that the royal family possesses a titan power that allows them to alter humanity's memories but that a few minor bloodlines aren't affected. among these, only the ackermann clan and the oriental clan have opposed the king and endured persecutions as a result.

Mikasa’s parents are murdered and she gets abducted by human traffickers. amidst this traumatic experience, she awakens a mysterious power within her apparently thanks to her ackermann blood, gifting her superhuman strength and the feeling of knowing exactly "what needs to be done". She is saved by Eren and taken into the jaeger family.

as a mindless titan roaming outside wall maria, ymir eats marcel, who was a comrade of reiner, bertholdt and annie who possessed the power of the titans. she turns back into a human and now possesses marcel's titan power.

The scout regiment comes back from an exterior scouting mission.

The outer gate of Shiganshina District is breached by the colossal titan, allowing the other titans to enter. eren's mother gets eaten. the gate of wall maria is breached by the armored titan. eren swears to exterminate every titans. the refugees of shiganshina are evacuated to trost district.
Grisha jaeger goes to the Reiss chapel. He fights against Frieda Reiss with his Titan Power and manages to steal her titan power, said to allow its user to rule every other titans, by eating her. He then kills the entire Reiss family except rod reiss who somehow manages to escape.
grisha jaeger finds his son eren and gives him the key to the basement of their house. he also gives him an injection that turns him into a mindless titan and lets himself be eaten to give his powers to eren and allow him to turn back into a human possessing the titan power of the reiss family.
1 day after the fall of wall maria
eren wakes up with mikasa and Armin, feeling as though he met his father the last night, but brushes it off as a dream.
a few days after the fall of wall maria
rod Reiss visits his illegitimate daughter Historia Reiss and tries to take her into his custody. At the same time, the Interior Military Police's First Squad presents itself to kill Historia and her mother to clean the stain they represent on the royal family. Alma is killed by Kenny, but to protect historia, rod proposes to change her name to "christa lenz" and to send her to the training corps.

eren, mikasa and armin join the 104th cadet corps in order to become soldiers.

the scout regiment halt their expedition as they notice titans heading to trost district together. suspecting the gate may have been breached, they head back to trost.

the scout regiment goes on the 56th expedition beyond the walls.
The Colossal Titan breaches the gate of Trost District and the Titans invade, sparking the beginning of the Battle for Trost. amidst the battle, eren discovers he has the power to turn into a titan.

1 day after the battle for trost
All Titans trapped inside of the Trost District are killed. 2 Titans are captured and taken into the Scout Regiment’s custody for studies.
2 days after the battle for trost
The bodies of the fallen soldiers in Trost District are retrieved by the Garrison Corps and the Training Corps. Jean Kirschtein finds Marco Bott’s corpse.
as the retrieved bodies are incinerated, jean thinks back to marco's words. he decides he'll take his responsibilities by joining the scout regiment.
within 5 days after the battle for trost
eren wakes up chained in a dungeon and is greeted by erwin smith and levi ackermann.
eren is put on trial to decide which faction of the military will take custody of him. his custody is eventually given to the scout regiment but will be given to the military police if the scout regiment doesn't bring substantial results in its next expedition.
6 days after the battle for trost
eren joins the scout regiment under the supervision of the special operation squad (squad levi) and is relocated into the old scout regiment headquarters within wall rose where experiments with his titan powers will be conducted within the next month.

Hange discusses her experiments on the captured titans with eren until the next morning.
7 days after the battle for trost
the two captured titans in custody of the Scouts Regiment are found dead. An equipment inspection for all the new recruits is held. Armin notices that annie presented marco's gear.
enlistment ceremony : 21 trainees from the 104th cadet Corps join the Scout Regiment. Annie Leonhardt joins the Military Police Brigade.

eren experiments with his titan form under hange zoe's supervision. they discover he needs to have a proper goal in mind while he's injured to transform.

the scout regiment departs for the 57th exterior scouting mission from calaneth district in direction of shiganshina district.

a female titan appears from the right flank in order to capture eren and is led into a forest of giant trees where erwin smith was waiting to capture her but she manages to escape.

the female titan kills all of the special operation squad excepted levi and fights eren in his titan form. she manages to capture him but eren is retrieved by levi teaming up with mikasa. levi injures his leg amidst the fight.

the scout regiment is forced to abandon the operation and retreat to calaneth district.
1 day after the 57th scouting mission
new scout regiment recruits from the 104th cadet corps suspected to hide potential allies of annie leonhardt are kept in a building in the south of wall rose under supervision of miche zacharias.
Annie Leonhardt is identified as the most likely true identity of the Female Titan by the Scout Regiment and plans are made to capture her in Stohess District.
2 days after the 57th scouting mission
titans are sighted inside wall rose led by a mysterious "beast" titan. the new scout regiment recruits who were under suspicion of hiding potential allies of annie are dispatched to warn nearby villages of the danger.

in stohess, the scouts manage to capture annie but she locks herself inside a crystal. after the fight, a part of the wall that was damaged falls off, revealing that the walls are made of titans. pastor nick from the wall cult knew about it and points them towards historia reiss, aka christa lenz, who apparently comes from an important family who knows the secrets of the walls and is currently on the frontlines in wall rose.

the scouts find her the next day at utgard castle, where ymir revealed her identity as titan in order to protect her comrades who had found refuge there from a horde of titans during the night. shortly after, reiner and bertholdt are also revealed to be the armored and colossal titans. they manage to kidnap eren and ymir but in a chaotic battle between them and the scouts, eren discovers that he can control the titans and manages to escape their grasp. ymir makes the choice to follow reiner and bertholdt back to their hometown while the scouts retreat with eren.

within 1 week after eren's rescue
The government declares the safety of Wall Rose and the refugees who had been sent to the Underground City beneath the Capital are sent back to their homes after anarchy nearly breaks out due to a lack of provisions.
Levi forms his new squad in charge of protecting Eren and Historia and they relocate into a new hideout within Wall Rose. Historia tells the squad about her upbringing in the reiss family.
erwin wakes up in a hospital room and is given news that the titans who invaded wall rose are suspected of being the residents of ragako who have been turned through unknown means. the beast titan is suspected of being behind this incident.
1 week after Eren's rescue
levi pays a visit to erwin and they talk about investigating the reiss family to learn more about the walls and maybe the titan hardening ability.
day 1
hange leads experiments to see if eren can harden his titan body to plug the hole in wall maria. after transforming 3 times in a row, eren is unable to summon a complete titan form and his human body starts fusing with his titan body, making his extraction difficult. eren is unable to harden.
day 2
nifa informs erwin of nick's death and he gives her a letter adressed to levi. the military police comes for erwin and he is summoned to the royal capital, mitras.
pastor nick is tortured and killed in the early morning by sannes and ralph in the military barracks hange assigned him to.
hange learns about nick's death and confronts sannes. she finds out they are soldiers from the interior military police's first squad, the capital's military police, who were deployed all the way down to trost to find out what nick revealed to the scout regiment and eliminate him.
squad levi and squad hange watch from afar as the military police raids their hideout. levi tells everyone that there's been a freeze on the scout regiment's activities outside the walls and the government wants them to hand over eren and historia. eren gives his paper to hange. Hange decides to go after erwin and lends 3 members of her squad (nifa, abel and keiji) to levi. squad levi heads to trost district in order to identify the enemy.
eren wakes up after having slept for a whole day, has a chat with historia and remembers a conversation between ymir and bertholdt that he writes on a piece of paper. squad hange reunites with squad levi and tells them about nick's death. nifa delivers erwin's letter to levi and he orders everyone to leave the cabin immediately.
jean and armin, disguised as eren and historia, are kidnapped by men of the reeves company. the actual eren and historia are in a carriage driven by keiji and are headed to pyxis' .
mikasa, sasha, connie, jean and armin succesfully apprehend the captors and tie them up.
as they watch over the carriage transporting eren and historia, levi, nifa and abel are ambushed by "kenny the ripper" and his squad, using "anti-personnel" odm gear. abel, nifa and keiji are killed. Eren and historia are shot with tranquilizer darts and kidnapped.
day 3
the assembly talks about giving away 60% of the royal family's food reserves to the people of trost. Rod reiss says that it's necessary to reinforce the people's approval of the royal family and that their plan is already in motion. soon they'll have the "power" and the "vessel".
erwin is brought back to trost after his summons to the capital to be interrogated by the assembly. he has a chat with nile dawk about the future of their walled society.
squad levi strikes a deal with dimo reeves. as they head to another hideout within wall rose, dimo reeves and his son flegel get in touch with sannes and ralph from the interior military police's first squad.
dimo and flegel bring sannes and ralph to where squad levi is hiding and they capture both of them to interrogate them about eren and historia's location. dimo and flegel head back to trost.
the members of the assembly lament the fact they weren't able to get anything out of erwin's interrogation. They receive a message from rod reiss telling them that eren and historia's capture was successful.
after seemingly bumping into squad levi on her way back to trost, hange goes to erwin's place to warn him that eren and historia were kidnapped and from the paper eren gave her, she deduces that he might get eaten if they don't rescue him quickly.
kenny kills dimo reeves for his betrayal and alliance with the scout regiment. dimo's son, flegel, witnesses the scene.
day 4
hange and moblit reunite with squad levi and start torturing sannes. he reveals that the reiss family is actually the true royal family and rod reiss is the true king of the walls ruling from the shadows, making historia a potential heir to the throne, and that eren and historia are probably detained by rod reiss. hange and moblit head to trost to pass the word to erwin while squad levi heads towards the reiss family estate.
erwin meets with pyxis in private and they talk about overthrowing the government. erwin shares a story from his childhood and his father's theory that, a hundred years ago, the king altered the people's memories of history before the walls.
hange arrives at the end of their discussion and confirms erwin's gamble on the reiss family being the true royal family. erwin gives her the report of an investigation done on the reiss family's lands by scouts. he gets called outside and makes hange the next commander in line of the scout regiment.
erwin is framed for the murder of dimo reeves and he, as well as other scout regiment members, are arrested by the military police. hange and moblit escape unnoticed and erwin is brought to the royal capital.
eren and historia are delivered to rod reiss at some unknown place. rod tells historia that he's sorry for everything. he tells her that she has royal blood and that she is "the only one who can save humanity". he proposes to take her and eren, who's still tranquilized, to "where it all started".
nile is interviewed by two journalists named roy and peaure. he tells them to not publish anything about the Interior Military police and the new equipment they used until they've given their own report.
erwin is violently interrogated by a member of the assembly. he reveals nothing.
hange saves flegel reeves who was being chased by soldiers from the interior military police for witnessing his father's murder and urges him to let the truth be known to the people and testify in favor of the scout regiment.
using himself as bait, flegel tricks the soldiers who were chasing him into revealing the truth about dimo reeves' murder and the Interior military police's schemes to the inhabitants of trost. roy and peaure also witness the scene.

roy is hesitant to oppose the government, but flegel manages to convince him to publish the truth.
in the night, nile pays a visit to erwin in his cell and tells him that his audience with the king will be held in the morning. erwin asks him where his family lives and nile answers in the east of the wall rose. erwin tells him that when the time comes, he and "they" will have to make a choice.
day 5
the assembly sentences erwin to death for violating clause 6 of the charter of humanity. his sentence is to be carried out immediately. as erwin is being carried to the gallows, pyxis' assistant anka rheinberger barges in the room, reporting that wall rose has been breached by the colossal and armored titans and that refugees from the east of wall rose are migrating to wall sina. the assembly orders nile and the other soldiers of the military police to close all the gates of wall sina and to not let a single refugee in. nile refuses to obey as premier dhalis zachary suddenly enters the room with armed soldiers and reports that the attack was a false alarm. pyxis reveals it was all a test to see if the assembly would care about the people's survival. Having heard their reply, he and zachary carry out a coup d'état. the members of the interior military police and the assembly, including the figurehead king fritz, are captured.
after seizing the capital, the fall of the fritz regime is proclaimed by the military from the top of erwin's gallows. they declare that they do not intend to implement military rule and plan to return the throne to its rightful heir, historia reiss. in a carriage, erwin has a private chat with premier dhalis zachary who tells him about his old selfish ambitions that he finally fulfilled by overthrowing the government.
squad levi makes a stop in stohess to gather supplies and learns that the scout regiment is going to be dismantled and that the military police will hunt for the remaining scout regiment members who are still on the run. they also learn that the main roads are being guarded and checked by the military police. outside the city, sasha hears people approaching. the two people are marlo and hitch and they get captured by squad levi. they propose to cooperate and jean decides to test their convictions. they pass the test successfully and levi accepts their help.
marlo and hitch lead squad levi to the least guarded military checkpoint. squad levi raids the checkpoint and capture a man from the interior military police. levi violently interrogates the man and asks him where eren and historia are. the man knows nothing. his boss, kenny "ackermann" is a very secretive man. squad levi sees two hooded figures approaching.

the two figures are in fact hange and moblit who came to tell them that the coup was a success and that the scout regiment has been cleared of all their accusations. thanks to the investigation report made on the reiss lands that erwin gave her, she tells levi that she may have a lead on where eren and historia might be. the report mentions a strange incident surrounding a chapel owned by the reiss family which happened the night wall maria fell. finding the story of the place suspicious, they decide to head to this chapel.
day 6
after getting a strange vision from the point of view of frieda reiss, eren wakes up chained in a cave with shining walls, feeling as though he's been here in the past, but rod reiss claims it has never been the case. as rod and historia put their hands on his back, memories belonging to eren's father suddenly surge in his brain. through these memories, he discovers what his father did the night wall maria fell and that he obtained his titan powers, including the one his father stole from the reiss family, by eating him as a mindless titan. at the same time, historia recovers memories of her own childhood with frieda reiss, that the latter had erased.
pyxis reports to erwin that the situation is dire and that all the nobles they captured have confirmed that the reiss family has the power to alter humanity's memories. they have to quickly save eren before the reiss get his "scream" back and quash the rebellion by erasing everyone's memories. Erwin forms a rescue party and heads towards the reiss chapel where eren and historia are believed to be held.
levi warns his squad about facing against kenny ackermann. he asks mikasa if they might be relatives. she answers that both of her parents met as they were fleeing persecutions from the capital. but unlike her mother who belonged to a different ethnic group, she doesn't know why her father's family was persecuted. levi asks her if she has ever experienced a sudden surge of power in her body to which she responds positively. Levi tells her that he and kenny ackermann also experienced a moment like that. squad levi and hange finally arrive at the reiss chapel and prepare to get their hands dirty.
kenny remembers an old conversation with his grandfather while, his second, traute caven, makes a speech to the anti-personnel control squad, as they prepare to greet their enemies with their anti-personel ODM gear. they trust "kenny's dream" and are resolute to give meaning to their lives in this absurd world.
